By the end of the second week, things are starting to happen. The eyes open, motor coordination kicks in and life in the whelping box becomes a bit more raucous. The pups are growing quickly and are now between 3 and 4 lbs. Their world will soon expand to include what will become the weaning pen. Mom's milk can keep up for the time being - but she's feeding a group of 10 pups that collectively are almost half of her own body weight.
